The Datsun brand was created by the DAT Motorcar Co. in 1931, and was picked up by Nissan Motor Co. just two years later. The most notable Datsun vehicles are their famed sports cars, known as the Fairlady coupes and the Fairlady roadsters. Prior to 1958, Nissan only sold trucks in the United States under the name Nissan. The rest of their vehicles were labeled Datsun. The Datsun brand was ultimately discontinued in 1986, but it did make an appearance briefly in the form of the model name for the Nissan D-22 Pickup in Japan in 2001.
